Hole in one

Garret Sanchez made a hole-in-one on Sunday on the 15th hole at Oquirrh Hills Golf Course. He used a 7-iron. Andrew Reid witnessed the shot.

Grantsville tennis at Northridge

The Grantsville boys tennis team won all three singles matches en route to a 3-2 win over Northridge in a non-region match Thursday. “The match was very competitive and long,” Grantsville coach Stephen Thurgood said in an email. Seth Beckett won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles after having not played for more than two weeks because of back issues. Freshman Porter Whitworth earned a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, and Peter Kurtz overcame a slow start to win 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Andrew Dalton and Jase Wilson led early in both sets of their 7-5, 4-6 loss at No. 1 doubles. The Cowboys’ No. 2 doubles team fell 6-0, 6-2. Grantsville will take part in the Region 10 tennis tournament Thursday at Tooele High School.

Grantsville baseball at Union

The Grantsville baseball team picked up its second Region 10 win in as many days, beating Union 6-0 on Friday in Roosevelt to improve to 3-6 in region play. The Cowboys (10-10, 3-6) trail the Cougars (9-10, 4-5) by one game for third place in Region 10. Grantsville travels to second-place Stansbury on Thursday.

Grantsville softball at Union

Alese Casper threw a complete-game four-hitter, striking out 10 and walking just one as the Grantsville softball team moved one step closer to the Region 10 title with an 8-0 win over Union on Friday in Roosevelt. Breanna Dzierzon and Kylee Leach went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Addison Smith, Reannon Justice and Brayle Crosman each went 2-for-4. Union (18-5, 3-2 Region 10) committed eight errors in the loss. Grantsville (19-4, 6-1) will look to clinch the outright region title Friday at Stansbury.

Lady Buff Invitational softball tournament

The Grantsville softball team went 2-1 at the Lady Buff Invitational at the Deseret Peak Complex on Saturday, while host team Tooele went 1-2. Grantsville beat Copper Hills 8-1 and held off Herriman for a 13-12 win, but lost 10-9 to defending Class 3A state champion Bear River. Tooele edged Springville 9-8, but lost 18-15 to Herriman and 6-5 to Bear River.

Tooele soccer at Park City

The Tooele boys soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a 5-1 loss at Park City on Monday. The Buffaloes, who finished third in Region 10 with a 3-4-1 league record, will travel to North Sanpete for the opening round of the Class 3A state tournament Thursday.

Tooele softball at Stansbury

The Tooele softball team improved to 3-3 in Region 10 play with an 8-3 win on the road against Stansbury on Monday. The Buffaloes were led by Payton Hammond, who hit a double and picked up the victory in the pitcher’s circle. Tooele (10-9, 3-3 Region 10), which took a half-game lead on Stansbury for third place in the region standings, played host to Park City on Tuesday in a game that was not complete at press time. Stansbury (12-9, 2-3) traveled to Union on Tuesday.
