Rifle deer hunt opens

The general rifle buck deer hunt begins in Utah on Saturday on 29 units across the state, with more than 60,000 hunters expected to take part. The early hunt began Oct. 10 on seven units. According to a Utah Division of Wildlife Resources press release, this year’s hot, dry conditions may make the hunt more difficult than in years past, and antler growth may not be as good. Estimates say there are more than 360,000 mule deer in the state.
