Sports Wrap – September 14, 2021

Volleyball

Stansbury defeated Cottonwood 3-0 on Sept. 7 in Salt Lake City 25-19, 25-15, 25-17 to run its record to 6-5 on the season. The Stallions host Region 7 foe Uintah tonight, play at Hillcrest on Thursday and host Cedar Valley on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

Tooele lost at Uintah 3-0 on Thursday, lost at Ridgeline 2-0 on Friday, and lost to Layton 2-0 on Friday. The Buffaloes defeated Hillcrest 3-0 on Saturday with scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-18. Tooele (2-5) plays at Payson (6-5) tonight.

Grantsville lost 3-0 at South Summit on Thursday with scores of 13-25, 15-25 and 15-25.

The Cowboys (5-8) play at Ogden (4-7) tonight and host Morgan on Thursday.

Soccer  

Stansbury defeated Payson 4-0 on Monday. Bailey Thomas, Danica Silvestri, Brinley Jensen and Gracee Alders scored goals for the Stallions with assists from Silvestri, Alders, Ainsley Thurber and Annie Ploehn. Thurber recorded the shutout.

The Stallions host HIllcrest Wednesday.

Tooele picked up a 4-0 victory at Payson with Cecily Wolfe contributing two goals and two assists, Liberty Lyman one goal and Abigail Laughlin one goal. Rylie Hogan and Emily Carrillo contributed one assist each.

Tooele hosts Uintah Wednesday.

Grantsville dropped a pair of home Region 13 matches with a 4-1 loss to Morgan on Thursday and a 6-0 defeat to Ogden on Monday. Mckenzie Allen scored against Morgan with an assist from Daynara Castenada.

Tennis

Grantsville continues to dominate in girls tennis with No. 1 Sophie Crosby leading the way.

In recent matches, the Cowboys defeated Mountain Crest 6-0, Stansbury 6-0, South Summit 5-0, and Ogden 5-0.

Morgan defeated Grantsville 4-1 on Wednesday with highly competitive matches.

Crosby lost her match 4-6, 3-6, second singles Lacy Linares lost 1-6, 3-6, third singles Audry Curtis picked up the lone victory in a hard fought 7-5, 6-4 battle.

Doubles matches were also tight. First doubles Addie Butler and Madison Bolinder dropped their match 5-7, 4-6. Second doubles Afton Orgill and Lauren Holt lost 6-7 (1-7) and 6-7 (6-8).
