Grantsville girls soccer
vs. South Summit

The Grantsville girls soccer team moved one step closer to clinching a berth in the upcoming Class 3A state tournament on Thursday, defeating South Summit 3-1 behind three second-half goals by sophomore Whitney Wangsgard. She now has 36 goals in 11 matches this season. The Cowboys (8-3, 2-3 Region 13) will play host to Judge Memorial on Thursday.

The Grantsville volleyball team fell 25-17, 25-18, 25-16 to South Summit in a Region 13 match Thursday in Kamas. Statistics were not available as of press time Tuesday. The Cowboys (10-8, 0-2 Region 13) faced Summit Academy in a Region 13 road match in Bluffdale that was not complete at press time.

Stansbury volleyball at Ogden

Annika Riggle had seven kills and Linzie Hoffmann added six more to lead the Stansbury volleyball team to a 25-12, 25-17, 25-14 win over Ogden in a Region 11 road match Thursday night. Hoffmann added six aces and Samantha Bryant had 27 assists and five aces for the Stallions (10-5, 5-1 Region 11) who returned to Ogden to face Ben Lomond in a region match that was not complete at press time Tuesday.

Tooele volleyball at Bonneville

Sadee Simmons had 14 kills, four aces and nine assists, but the Tooele volleyball team fell 25-17, 25-20, 22-25, 26-24 to Bonneville in a Region 11 match Thursday in Washington Terrace. Janey Colovich had 10 assists for the Buffaloes (2-6, 2-4 Region 11), who faced Ogden on the road in a Region 11 match that was not complete at press time Tuesday.

vs. Ben Lomond

Mackenzie Landward and Reagan Didericksen each had a hat trick, Maddy Graber scored twice and McCall Littlefield added another goal as the Stansbury girls soccer team routed Ben Lomond 9-0 in a Region 11 game Monday afternoon at Stansbury High School. Ainsley Thurber picked up the shutout in goal for the Stallions (5-9, 3-7 Region 11), who travel to Tooele next Monday.

vs. Park City

Makenna McCloy had the lone goal for Tooele’s girls soccer team in its 8-1 loss to Park City in a Region 11 match at home Monday afternoon. Tooele (3-9-1, 2-7 Region 11) will travel to Ben Lomond on Thursday.

Girls basketball camp

A basketball game skills and enhancement camp for girls in grades 6-12 will take place at Stansbury High School from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 5 and 8-10 a.m. Oct. 6. Cost is $30 per player. To register for the camp, contact Kenzie Newton at (801) 631-7708 or kenzienewton12@gmail.com.

Real Salt Lake

RSL fell 2-0 to Atlanta United FC, the top team in Major League Soccer, on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The loss snapped a four-match unbeaten streak for Real Salt Lake (13-11-6), which slipped into fifth place in the Western Conference standings. RSL plays host to Sporting Kansas City on Sunday at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy.

football vs. McNeese State

The BYU football team scored 24 points in the second quarter en route to a 30-3 win over McNeese State on Saturday at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo. Skyler Southam kicked three field goals and Lopini Katoa rushed for two touchdowns for the Cougars (3-1). Stansbury High graduate Zayne Anderson did not play in Saturday’s game. The Cougars will face Washington in a non-conference game Saturday in Seattle.

Utah State University football vs. Air Force

The Utah State football team opened Mountain West Conference play with a 42-32 win over Air Force on Saturday at Maverik Stadium in Logan behind 356 passing yards and two touchdowns from quarterback Jordan Love and 101 rushing yards and two scores by Gerold Bright. Stansbury High grad Chase Christiansen had nine tackles in the win for the Aggies (3-1, 1-0 MWC), who are off this week ahead of an Oct. 5 road game against in-state rival BYU.

Weber State University football vs. Northern Colorado

The Weber State football team rolled to a 45-28 win over Northern Colorado in the Big Sky Conference opener for both teams at Stewart Stadium in Ogden on Saturday. Former Stansbury High standout Landon Stice, fresh off being named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week, had six tackles and half a tackle-for-loss for the Wildcats (3-1, 1-0 Big Sky). Josh Davis rushed for 223 yards on 30 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns, with former Stansbury High star Iosua Opeta starting at left tackle. Weber State is off this week before traveling to Northern Arizona on Oct. 6.

Southern Utah University football at Northern Arizona

Southern Utah’s football team dropped its Big Sky Conference opener on Saturday in Flagstaff, Ariz., falling 31-23 to Northern Arizona despite 94 rushing yards from Jay Green. The Thunderbirds (0-4, 0-1 Big Sky) also lost quarterback Chris Helbig to injury in the first half, with Aaron Zwahlen playing the second half. Former Grantsville High star Gavin Eyre did not play in Saturday’s game for SUU. The T-Birds will have the week off before a road trip to Eastern Washington on Oct. 6.
