Tooele volleyball vs. Ogden

The Tooele volleyball team beat Ogden 25-17, 25-16, 25-19 in the first game of the Region 11 season Thursday night on the road. Tooele (2-1, 1-0 Region 11) played host to Ben Lomond in a Region 11 match Tuesday night.

vs. Ben Lomond

The Stansbury volleyball team rolled to a 25-13, 25-10, 25-11 win over Ben Lomond in the Region 11 opener Thursday night in Ogden. Stansbury (7-5, 1-0 Region 11) played host to Park City in a Region 11 match Tuesday night.

Grantsville volleyball
vs. Bear River

The Grantsville volleyball team won the first two sets of its non-region road match 25-18, 25-20, but couldn’t hold on as Bear River stormed back to win the final three sets 25-22, 25-22, 15-12 in the Bears’ 3-2 win Thursday night in Garland. Grantsville (2-6) played host to Mountain Crest in a non-region match Tuesday night.

vs. North Summit

Grantsville freshman Whitney Wangsgard scored five goals, seniors Layne Holmes and Sarah Ellett each scored twice and Kylee Haycock, Ashley Wangsgard and Talia Hawke also had goals as the Cowboys rolled to a 12-0 win over Class 2A North Summit on Friday. Savannah Thomas made two saves to earn the shutout in goal. Grantsville (5-0) opens Region 13 play Thursday at Judge Memorial.

Salt Lake Bees

The Bees wrapped up the 2017 season with a 9-7 loss to the Fresno Grizzlies on Monday afternoon at Smith’s Ballpark. Salt Lake (72-70) lost four of its final five games to lose the Pacific Southern Division title to El Paso by a single game, leaving the Bees on the outside of the Pacific Coast League playoffs looking in.

University of Utah football

Tyler Huntley threw for 227 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 70 yards and another score to lead the Utes to a 37-16 win over North Dakota in the season opener Thursday at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. Zack Moss rushed for 128 yards and a score for the Utes (1-0), and Darren Carrington had 10 receptions for 127 yards and a TD. Utah travels to Brigham Young on Saturday.

Brigham Young University football

The Cougars managed just 97 yards of total offense, including minus-5 yards on the ground, in a 27-0 loss to LSU on Saturday in New Orleans. BYU (1-1) had the ball for just 18:06 and never crossed midfield. BYU hosts Utah on Saturday at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo.

Utah State University football

The Aggies (0-1) took an early 10-0 lead, but Wisconsin responded with 59 unanswered points in a 59-10 romp Saturday in Madison, Wis. Utah State hosts Idaho State on Friday night at Maverik Stadium in Logan.

Southern Utah University football

The Thunderbirds (0-1) fell 77-21 to Oregon on Saturday in Eugene, Ore. SUU travels to Stephen F. Austin on Saturday for a non-conference game.

Weber State University football

The Wildcats (1-0) demolished Montana Western 76-0 on Saturday in Ogden. Weber State travels to Berkeley, Calif., on Saturday to face PAC-12 Conference foe Cal.
