Stallion track team races to victory over rivals

Stansbury High School ran away from the competition Wednesday at the Deseret Peak Invitational in Stansbury Park.

The boys and girls Stallion track teams combined for a team total of 464 points in a meet that awarded points for the top eight finishers in each event. Tooele finished second with 233 points, Morgan third at 209.5 points followed by Grantsville at 143, Wendover 99.5 and  Dugway 23.

In boys competition the Stallions racked up 251 points followed by Tooele 105.5, Grantsville 96.5, Morgan 83, Dugway 23 and Wendover 20

The Stanbury girls placed first with 213 points followed by Tooele 127.5, Morgan 126.5, Wendover 79.5, Grantsville 46.5 and Dugway 1

Teams were awarded 10 points for a first-place finish in each event; 8 points for second; 6 for third, 5 for fourth, 4 for fifth, 3 for sixth, 2 for seventh and 1 for eighth.

“We’ve only had a few meets so far, and honestly everybody right now is just finding themselves and where they fit in. We should be really good,” said Stansbury coach Steve Allen. “Wednesday’s meet was a state qualifying meet and we had a few qualify, but we still have a lot of work to do. We do have a good size team as far as numbers, and everybody contributes from the fastest to the slowest.”
