Stansbury cruised to a 5-0 victory over Tooele Thursday in girls tennis.
The Stallions dominated most of the matches with some resistance at first singles and second doubles.
The first singles match lasted the longest with Stansbury’s Abby Nordgren and Tooele’s Makenna Bergen the last of the five varsity matches to finish. Bergen put up a good fight in the opening set with Nordgren winning 6-3. Stansbury’s top player cruised in the second set to win the match 6-3, 6-1.
The Stallions’ Danielle Dunn and Rachel Rogers received a bit of resistance from Tooele’s Abrey VanDerwerken and Kelsie Jackson, but defeated them 6-2, 6-2.
The rest of the matches were over quickly.
Stansbury’s Sydney Squires defeated Kaitlyn Bresse at second singles 6-0, 6-1. Abby Stanworth defeated Amanda Carreau at third singles 6-1, 6-0.
Kallie Stewart and Molly Johnson defeated Danielle Dobson and Shelbie Hickman 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles.
Grantsville 5, Ben Lomond 0
At Grantsville Thursday, the Scots featured a strong first singles player and a good first doubles team. Despite the stress in those two categories, the Cowboys were able to pick up a clean sweep.
Courtney James defeated Becca Windley 6-4, 6-4 at first singles.
Jennifer Christensen defeated Rachel Windley 6-1, 6-1 at second singles.
Ashlynn Peterson defeated Kennedy Jones 6-1, 6-1 at third singles.
The first doubles match was tight with Morgan Matthews and Lexi Jackson defeating Emily Clawson and Lilly McCordy 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5).
Baili Sandberg and Becca Toone defeated Monica Wilson and Mary Gibson 6-0, 6-2.
Grantsville won all the junior varsity matches and four of seven exhibition doubles matches.
Tooele plays at Grantsville Tuesday, Sept. 3, and the Cowboys travel to Stansbury on Thursday, Sept. 5. Matches start at 3:30 p.m.
