After starting the season 0-4, the Stansbury Stallions girls basketball team got into the win column Dec. 13 against the Park City High Miners.
Both teams played a tightly contested first half, with the score tied at 20-20 after two quarters. In the third quarter, the Stallions shut the Miners down and posted 10 points to Park City’s zero. Stansbury held a 30-20 lead heading into the final stanza.
Despite a close fourth quarter, Stansbury’s lead proved too much to overcome and the team defeated the Miners 40-28.
Stallions small forward Tailor Palmer led the team in scoring, recording 18 points on 9-13 shooting. In addition to her point total, Palmer also posted 15 rebounds.
Juniors Lola Gardner and Brooke Jensen, with Gardner grabbing 11 rebounds and Jensen scoring nine points. Anika Knudsen also contributed on the boards, pulling down 11 rebounds of her own.
With the win, Stansbury now holds a 1-4 record heading into the holiday break. The Stallions girls team play on the road this Friday as they face Bear River in Garland. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
