Stallions race to top finishes at meet

Six of the first eight boys to cross the finish line at a cross country meet Wednesday morning were from Stansbury High School.

With all those runners out in front, Stanbury’s boys cruised to first place as a team with 18 points followed by Bear River 71, Grantsville 88, Ben Lomond 105 and Tooele 120. The first six runners from each team earn points based on their overall placing. The  Pre Region 11 meet was held at  Cottonwood Complex in Salt Lake City.

Stansbury’s Piercen Maez crushed the competition 13 seconds ahead of second-place teammate Jaden Torgerson. Maez clocked 16:04 with Torgerson coming in at 16:17.

Grantsville’s Brandon Passey finished third with a time of 16:41.

Tanner Jensen, SHS, finished fourth; Cameron Houston, SHS, fifth; Taylor Graves, SHS, sixth; Colin Arave, GHS, seventh; Hanier Hoffmann, SHS, eighth; Adam Heiner, BLHS, ninth; and Wesley Allen, GHS, 10th.

Seven of the first 11 girls to cross the finish line were from Stansbury.

Maggie Beazer and Kaitlin Palmer were together at the finish line to nab first place and second place, respectively. Beazer clocked 20:00 with Palmer at 20:01. The Lady Stallions finished first with 21 points followed by Bear River 54, Tooele 63 and Grantsville 89.

Kylie Larkin of Bear River finished third with a time of 20:18.

Sidney Warick, SHS, finished fourth; KaSandra Norgren, SHS, fifth; Rachel Hughes, BRHS, sixth; Kristen Rust, GHS, seventh; Shawni Williams, THS, eighth; Jessica Chipman, SHS, ninth; and Mikelle Rogers, SHS, 10th.

Other finishes for local boys in the top 20 included Nick Gamble, THS, 14th; Nathan Dale, SHS, 18th; and Paul Blackhurst, GHS, 19th.

Other finishes for local girls in the top 20 included Kendra Winterton, SHS, 11th; Eva Olcott, THS, 12th; Megan Webb, THS, 13th; Stephanie Patten, SHS, 14th; Hannah Wilde, SHS, 15th; McKenzie Gilbert, SHS, 19th; and Taeler Johnson, GHS, 20th.

Stansbury’s Josh Larsen won the boys junior varsity race with a time of 17:59. Four other SHS runners finished in the JV top 10, including Tyson McKeon, Zachary Duvall, Zack Adair and Aaron Gubler.

Region 11 runners will meet again for a race on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m. in Settlement Canyon.
