The Region 10 boys golf championship figures to go down to the wire this season, and Thursday’s match at Oquirrh Hills Golf Course in Tooele only reinforced that notion.
Stansbury, Cedar Valley and Tooele have battled for the top spot in every tournament so far in 2019, and Thursday’s tournament was the closest of all, with SHS holding off Cedar Valley by a single stroke for top honors. The Stallions’ Braydon Griffith and Cedar Valley’s Caden Dunn tied for the top individual score, as each shot 75. Stansbury senior Peyton Thevenot finished third with a 77, with Tooele’s Luke Begnaud and Ashton Morrill each shooting 78 to round out the top five.
Hunter Luke shot 81 and Brock Shepherd shot 83 to round out Stansbury’s team score of 316. Meanwhile, Cedar Valley’s Jackson Shippen and Landon Dunn each shot 80 (tied for sixth) and Bowden Hunter shot 82 (11th) to give the Aviators a score of 317. Stansbury also got solid rounds from Joseph Luke (86, tied for 15th), Cole Clawson (89, tied for 19th), Dan Estes (97, tied for 33rd) and Drew Knudsen (102, 41st) that didn’t count toward its team total.
Tooele finished third, 15 strokes behind Stansbury with a team score of 331. Dallin Callister’s 84 (14th) and Jesse Sayers’ 91 (23rd) completed the Buffaloes’ team total. Cache Holmes fired a 93 (tied for 26th), with AJ Griffith and Landon Buell each shooting 94 (tied for 28th) and Caleb Buell posting a 95 (tied for 31st).
Uintah finished fourth overall with a team score of 337, six strokes behind Tooele. Ogden was fifth with a 363, with Juan Diego sixth at 371 and Ben Lomond seventh at 416. Ogden’s Coltin Powell tied for sixth place with a score of 80 and Uintah’s Trey Briggs tied for ninth with an 81.
The Region 10 squads will be back on the course Thursday morning at Stansbury Park Golf Course.
