Last Tuesday, the Utah State Cross Country Championships were held Oct. 24 at the Regional Athletic Complex in Rose Park. Tooele and Stansbury both ran in the 4A meet, with Grantsville competing later in the day at the 3A meet. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams qualified, from all three schools, for the first time in several years.
In the 4A meet, Stansbury placed seventh in the boys’ race, while Tooele finished 20th and the Stallions girls placed 11th with the Buffs girls at 19th.
Senior Hyrum Staker (16:29.6) finished first for Stansbury in 25th place out of 180 runners. Sophomore Hayden Johnson and junior Jaxon Allen were not far behind at 16:40.8 (33rd) and 16:44.1 (36th). The Stallions’ fourth and fifth runners were freshman Ethan Belnap (17:15.3) and junior Evan Reinhart (17:19.7).
Tooele’s top finishers were sophomore Braxton Williams (17:33.5) and senior Carter Clayton (18:02.1).
Junior Ellie Dangerfield (19:15.5) was the Stallions’ top female runner, in 15th place, with sophomore Leah Larsen (19:40.2) claiming 24th. Junior Ramie Peacock (21:14.8) was the Buffs’ top finisher in 76th place.
The Cowboys’ boys’ team claimed eighth place in the 3A meet while the girls finished 15th. Top runners for Grantsville were junior Isaac Nordgren (17:01.0) in 17th place, freshman Cooper Clark (17:40.4) in 40th, and junior Zach Dutson (17:45.0) in 41st.
Cliff Richardson (17:49.2) was the fourth scorer and sophomore Evan Craner (18:17.9) was the fifth runner in the scoring.
Freshman Jane Whittle (21:39.4) ran first for the Cowboys, finishing 33rd, with sophomore Sophia Camargo (21:56.9) claiming 36th.
