The Stansbury boys golf team finished 18 strokes ahead of second-place Cottonwood Monday in Region 7 golf action at Talons Cove Golf Course in Saratoga Springs.
The Stallions, led by Braydon Griffith with a 67, shot 307 as a team compared to Cottonwood at 325, Cedar Valley 327, Tooele 337, Uintah 345, Hillcrest 346, and Payson 409.
Stansbury’s Bradydon Griffith led the way for the Stallions with a 67, Jack Griffith fired 78, Brock Shepherd 80 and Ty Taylor 83.
Jaxon Hunt fired a 78 for the Tooele Buffaloes followed by Cache Holmes at 80, Landon Buell 89 and Coby Stump 90.
The Stallions lead the region with an average match score of 307.6 through seven matches.
Cottonwood, Tooele and Cedar Valley are in a tightly contested battle for second-place in the region. The Colts currently sit in second-place with a 327 scoring average followed by Tooele at 334.1 and Cedar Valley at 335.1. Uintah is next at 344.4, then Hillcrest 359.9 and Payson 411.1.
The teams play a final region match Monday at Spanish Oaks in Spanish Fork. Spanish Oaks is also the site of the 5A state finals Oct. 4-5.
The Cowboys finished second to Morgan on the Trojans’ home course Round Valley on Thursday.
Morgan shot 289 led by Tanner Telford at 67 and Lance Loughton at 71. Grantsville was 13 shots back at 302 followed by Odgen at 317.
Jace Sandberg and Decker Dzierzon posted solid scores of 73 each with Chris Hansen at 77 and Jordan Hunt at 79.
Grantsville plays another Region 13 round on Wednesday with a two-day region meet on Sept. 22-23, and the state championship meet Oct. 6-7 at Oquirrh Hills.
Grantsville will attempt to knock off three-time defending state golf champion Morgan. The Cowboys have averaged 315 in region matches this season compared to Morgan at 316. Ogden is locked in at third with a 324 average.
