Stansbury FFA shines at state convention

Last weekend, 1,700 Future Farmers of America members from all across the state gathered in Richfield for the Utah FFA State Convention.

For Stansbury FFA, Dallas Jones, the chapter’s vice president, was the state star winner in agri-science. Jones earned this from his study on growth rates in game fish by using commercial fish food and a simulated natural diet. Jones has been doing this project for the past two and a half years. With his project he also participated in the agri-science contest in the animal system division. This year he placed second.

Casey Mangum, the chapter’s president, and Jones earned their state FFA degree. Freshmen Kaitlin Palmer and Mandy Medsker won first place with their agri-science project in the food systems division. They will have the opportunity to go on to the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Ky., this October to participate in the national competition.

Stansbury FFA also had their parliamentary procedure team compete in the state competition. Members of that team are Mangum, Jones, McKenna Walters, Riley Hoopes, Jared Lorensen and Brad Staker.

Stansbury FFA also brought home the State Sweepstakes Award for best floral display at the state fair, a Superior Chapter Award and a 10 percent membership certificate.
