Stansbury High changes its address

Stansbury High School, which has been on Aberdeen Lane in Stansbury Park since it opened in 2009, can no longer be found there.

But the school didn’t move.

Tooele County Commissioners approved an ordinance at their meeting Tuesday that changed the name of Aberdeen Lane between Village Boulevard and Bates Canyon Road to Stallion Way.

The new address of the school is now 5300 N. Stallion Way.

Jordan Jenkins, Stansbury High School student body historian, and Principal Kendall Topham, sent a letter to the county recorder’s office requesting the name change, said Tooele County Recorder Jerry Houghton,

“Our office reviewed the request and thought it made sense,” he said. “We want to honor the request so we prepared an ordinance to make the change.”

In his proposal letter to the county, Jenkins wrote: “As student body officers, we have met and discussed ways to improve school spirit throughout the community. One way we hope to do this is to propose that a portion of Aberdeen Lane be changed to Stallion Way.”

Jenkins goes on to describe the proposal as a “monumental change” for Stansbury High School.

Commissioner Jerry Hurst, a former Grantsville High School teacher, was impressed by Jenkins’ request.

“I think it is great that the student body officers are the ones that brought this up and initiated it,” Hurst said, as he made a motion to approve the name change.

Commissioner Shawn Milne seconded the motion, which was quickly approved by a unanimous vote.

Following the vote, Hurst displayed a street sign with the name “Stallion Way.”

“I asked our road department to have this sign made in anticipation that this ordinance would pass,” he said. “From this time forward this street will be known as Stallion Way.”

There is a precedent of renaming streets for high schools in Tooele County, according to Hurst.

While the Grantsville High School Cowboys website lists the address of the school as 155 E. Cherry Street, a look at the street sign in front of the school reveals that some time ago Grantsville City renamed the street “Cowboy Drive.”

Wendover High School is found at 110 S. Wildcat Boulevard in Wendover, Utah.

Tooele High School student body officers were unavailable to comment on their desire to rename their home street so THS students can roam on Buffalo Lane.
