Stansbury Park man charged with rape and sodomy of a child

A Stansbury Park man faces felony sexual abuse charges after he allegedly had sexual intercourse with a minor.

Brian Woodruff, 39, appeared in 3rd District Court on Monday morning for two counts of first-degree felony rape of a child, two counts of first-degree felony sodomy of a child and one count of second-degree felony burglary.

According to a probable cause statement from the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office, the victim said Woodruff raped her on two separate occasions. The first occurred at Woodruff’s home and the second time he snuck into the victim’s house during the night.

Both encounters took place in Tooele County during March of this year.

According to the statement, the victim had been messaging with Woodruff through social media for about a month. Woodruff and the victim arranged the meeting in the victim’s home using messaging on a social network, the statement said.

Police obtained copies of the online discussion and the victim’s clothing before charging Woodruff with the five felony counts.

Woodruff is being held in the Tooele County Detention Center on $100,000 cash bail.
