Obit Teresa SlaughterTeresa Slaughter, 40, of Tracy, Calif., passed away Jan. 15 after fighting a brave battle with melanoma. Teresa was born Sept. 20, 1972 in North Platte, Neb. She spent her childhood in Seattle, Wash., and Minot, N.D., moving to Tooele in 1985. She graduated from Tooele High School in 1990. During her high school years she exhibited her dramatic flair by participating in the mime troupe and several drama productions. Teresa had great compassion for children who had been hurt, and volunteered with the Tooele Children’s Justice Center from 1998 to 2003. Teresa was married to Jason Slaughter on Jan. 5, 2005 in Virginia Beach, Va. There she worked as an administrative assistant for the Tidewater Regional Group Home Commission for at-risk teens from 2003 to 2009. Teresa’s greatest joy came from loving her husband and caring for their children. She also enjoyed writing, reading, cooking and socializing with friends. Teresa is survived by her husband Jason (Tracy), parents Gary and Maria Nord (Tooele), sisters Maureen (Minneapolis) and Kristina (Tooele), and children Cecelia, Emily, Noah, Beau, Justin, Van and Vivian. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Oscar and Dorothy Nord and Jacob and Aganetha Toews, aunt Anne Bergen and uncle Henry Toews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 25 at the First Baptist Church of Tooele, 580 S. Main St. All family and friends are invited to join us for a gathering to celebrate Teresa’s life Friday morning at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow the funeral at the Tooele Cemetery. A luncheon will be provided at the church afterward. All family and friends, please join us. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tooele Children’s Justice Center, 25 S. First East, Tooele. Beloved Teresa, you inspire us all. We love you and miss you.
