Aside from the four years at Tooele High as the team’s pitcher/first baseman, Shubert played for various league baseball clubs which helped his stock rise in the sport. In addition to playing for two of the top teams in Utah — Mountain West and RA Baseball academies — he had the opportunity to play in California for NorCal Baseball, competing against some of the better teams across the country.
Jayson’s father Chris said the time spent playing travel ball really helped streamline his son’s further his prospects playing college baseball.
“That’s led him on a great path to be able to extend his career,” he said. “(He’s) a hard-working kid who doesn’t give up.”
Looking back to his time spent with the Tooele High baseball program, Shubert learned from the good times — as well as the transitional period when the Buffaloes got a new coach — calling it a “really fun” journey.
“My first two years at Tooele was with Coach Nolan Stouter and it was great,” he said. Last year was a struggle (with) a new coach and getting everything going again.”
“This year was pretty good; the team is fun to be with,” Shubert said.
His mother Nicole credited Jayson’s coaches time spent playing for the league clubs
“If it wasn’t for them, he wouldn’t be where he’s at,” she said. “Because of (Jayson’s) hard work that they instilled in him, that’s how he’s getting where he’s going.”
Jayson will begin his studies at Treasure Valley in the fall and says he plans to study welding technology.
