The 2019 high school boys soccer season saw one of Tooele Valley’s three teams have a resurgence, while the other two endured the growing pains that come with rebuilding.
After missing out on the Class 4A state tournament a year ago, Stansbury returned to the postseason this year. The Stallions were in contention for a region championship right until the end, and easily surpassed preseason predictions that had them missing the state tournament altogether.
Grantsville had some bright moments of its own, but struggled with injuries and had to field an inexperienced lineup in a region that included some of Class 3A’s premier programs. The Cowboys may have missed out on the state tournament this year, but their underclassmen learned valuable lessons that will make them a much stronger team going forward.
Ditto for Tooele, which went winless this year but showed marked improvement throughout the season. The Buffaloes earned a thrilling 4-4 tie against one of Region 11’s top teams in Ogden, and were one goal away from their first victory in a 1-0 double-overtime loss to Bonneville in the season finale.
