XC teams go head-to-head in Saratoga Springs

The Tooele boys and girls cross country teams took part in a head-to-head meet with Region 10 foe Cedar Valley on Wednesday in Saratoga Springs, with the THS girls coming away with the victory over the Aviators.

The Buffaloes had a big advantage in the girls’ race, with Cedar Valley fielding just five runners to Tooele’s 34. As a result, 16 of the first 18 finishers were wearing Tooele purple. Jennifer Thomas led the way for the Buffs, finishing second overall in 22 minutes, 18.2 seconds. She was followed by teammates Holly Johansen (third, 22:21.3) and Grace Jenkins (fourth, 23:46.4). Keira Stewart (sixth, 24:22.4) and Joscelyn McAllister (seventh, 24:24.1) gave Tooele a team score of 22 to the Aviators’ 39. Hannah Prusse (eighth, 24:25.1), Rebekah Medley (ninth, 24:38.7) and Lorayna Howard (10th, 25:11.8) brought home top-10 finishes.

The boys’ race was a much fairer fight, with host Cedar Valley fielding 22 runners to Tooele’s 36. The Aviators beat the Buffaloes 24-35, placing seven runners in the top-10. Joel Brown (18:00.2), Garrett Palmer (18:03.0) and K Stoddard (18:13.3) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, for Tooele, with Parker Hansen (11th, 18:51.1) and Carter Clayton (12th, 19:03.6) completing the Buffs’ team score.
