Tooele’s Becca Smaellie captured first place in all three throwing events at the Manti Invitational on Friday, April 6. She also qualified for state in the shot put. Lizzie Stewart finished second in the discus and 100 meters and was third in the javelin. Ben Medley led the boys teams with first-place finishes in the 110 and 300 hurdles. Chris Ebert placed first in the long jump and Danny Leakehe was third in the shot put. Kyle Fletcher placed second in the 1600 meters.
The Buffaloes will travel to Price on Saturday for the Carbon Farm Bureau Qualifying Invitational.
Other notable performances for the men on Friday at Manti included a ninth-place finish by Thomas Wright in the 400, a fifthplace finish by Fletcher in the 800 and a sixth-place finish by Boone Johnson in the 1600. Nick Gamble placed eight in the 3200 and Straton Atherly was seventh in the 300 hurdles. Logan Mott was seventh in the discus and Boone Johnson was ninth in the long jump.
Medley, Fletcher, Wright and Alex Toone were second in the 4×400 relay with Allen Sneed, Jake Brady, Ty Nieberger and Boone Johnson second in the sprint medley relay.
Stacey Medley finished eighth in both the 100- and 200-meter runs with Madison Headman ninth in the 200. Makayla Arnold finished seventh in the 1600, Hope Wotherspoon was fifth in the long jump, seventh in the 100 hurdles and sixth in the 300 hurdles. Headman, Makaylee Bird, Alexis Arnold and Mikayla Arnold finished third in the sprint medley relay. Headman, Courtney Chambers, Alexis Hardy and Stacey Medley were third in the 4×400 relay.
