He was raised on his father’s ranch in Government Creek. There were 10 children born to this family and Vern was the ninth child.
He married his sweetheart, Helen M. Thomas, on Jan. 29, 1961. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 24, 2006. Together they had five children, who gave them many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Vern served in the United States Army. He worked and retired from Tooele Army Depot. He also worked various jobs, the last one was for Cal Ranch in Tooele until his health would not allow him to work anymore.
Vern loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They are what kept him going after the loss of his wife.
Vern never stopped being a cattleman and loved his cows.
Vern is survived by his sister, Mary Neilson; children: Stacey Johnson (Tim Lopez), David (Karri) Wright, Mark (Jen) Wright and Jeff Wright. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers and four sisters, son Scott Wright, granddaughter Amanda and great-grandson Austin.
Services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Stockton Ward Building. A viewing will be held at Tate Mortuary on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Thursday. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at the Stockton Cemetery.
