Veteran’s Day was celebrated in Vernon at the elementary school. The little rural school may be short on students, but is large on talent. Fifteen students led by lead teacher Donna Leary paid trubute to Vernon’s veterans with stories and songs. Twelve veterans with their spouses attended Monday’s luncheon furnished by mothers and served by the students. Greeted at the door as they arrived, veterans were made to feel welcome, honored, respected and appreciated by the fourth through sixth grade students in Leary’s class. Tooele County School District assistant superintendent Ken Luke, Capt. Earl Simmons from the Utah National Guard and Vernon Mayor Kent Sagers also attended the event. At the program, Sagers and Simmons signed a resolution that Vernon Town offers support to veterans and service members from Vernon.
