Warmth and light

This morning as I was getting ready to go to my school crossing assignment, I checked the temperature of the weather outside. It was a frightful 18 degrees Fahrenheit. I dressed extra warm to avoid the chilly air I would encounter.

As I was helping children go safely to school, a car pulled up. The passenger window came down and there sat a young boy with a smile on his face. He was holding a warm cup of hot chocolate in his hand. The driver, his mother, explained, “It is his birthday today. I asked him what he wanted to do on his birthday and he said he wanted to give hot chocolate to the crossing guards.”

I thanked him as they drove away. The hot chocolate was warm and yummy, but what warmed me even more was the care and goodness of the young boy. On his special day, he thought about the welfare of others. The warmth and light that this great young lad showed to me will last forever. He truly showed the spirit of this season.
