It’s amazing how quickly time passes. It seems we just began this year with our new Tooele County Clerk/Auditor’s office, and here we are six months into it. We have learned a lot in that short time.
I always knew my office staff was wonderful, but each of them has taken on a portion of the auditor’s workload to go along with their duties in the already busy clerk’s office. We’ve added two new people, Kathy Clark and Tinelle Tingey, and they have been a marvelous addition.
2015 Property Tax Abatement and Exemption Programs: The auditor’s office has a number of programs to help with your property taxes, i.e., Veteran’s Exemption, Blind Exemption, Circuit Breaker and Indigent (County) Abatement. Information can be obtained by calling Kathy at 435-843-3132 or going to www.co.tooele.ut.us/auditor.htm. Applications for all programs are due by Sept. 1.
Elections: It was candidate filing time from June 1 to June 8. The following offices and positions will be on the November ballot:
Tooele City – 3 council positions
Grantsville City – 3 council positions
Town of Ophir – 2 council positions
Town of Rush Valley – 2 council positions
Town of Stockton – 2 council positions
Town of Vernon – 3 council positions
Lake Point Improvement District – 2 board positions
Stansbury Recreation Service Agency – 1 board position
Stansbury Greenbelt Service Agency – 1 board position
Stansbury Park Improvement District – 1 board position
North Tooele Fire District – 3 board positions
May Tax Sale: The 2015 May Tax Sale has come and gone. I’m grateful we didn’t have to auction off anyone’s home. There were 11 parcels and 10 of them sold. It was a fascinating process and we had a number of interested and enthusiastic buyers. Not only was the tax money that was owed the county recouped, but the sale generated enough funds to cover the notices in the paper and certified mailings.
